Day 6: 4 Corners and Mesa Verde

It was not a good night with Cayson getting up 3 times for more medicine and breathing treatments. I dragged myself out of bed at 7:00 so we could be on the road to 4 Corners by 8:30.  We only had to drive 45 minutes to get to our first destination. 

After shopping at the outdoor vendors we headed to our second destination , Mesa Verde. We really enjoyed the museum and walking down to Spruce Tree House 

 It took a good 40 minutes to get from the front gate to all the pit houses and other dwellings. The view was amazing.  

We arrived back in Kirtland, New Mexico to make and eat dinner including Root Beer Floats. Off to Payson, Arizona tomorrow.  

Day 5: Kirkland, New Mexico

Up and getting ready at 6:30.  Cayson was up at 3:00am with a breathing treatment so I am tired today.  We were on the road by 8:20.  Again we were driving on barren roads with little to no civilization but the rock structures were beautiful.  

We stopped a little before lunch to see an amazing gorge. 

 On the way in to Kirkland we stopped at a Walmart for some essentials. The first Walmart we had seen in 3 days. 

  We set up in a nice but unusual RV camp called Homestead RV Park. With the air conditioner pulling electricity we kept tripping the breaker. I was really beginning to worry we would have to find a fix it shop today but so far so good. The boys enjoyed some Monopoly and even though Cayson is still running a fever and on breathing treatments he is acting pretty Normal. 

 Tomorrow we are off to Mesa Verde and Four Corners. 

Day 4: Eagles Nest, New Mexico

June 21: We were up by 6:00 and on the road at 8:14.  Today was a shorter drive day but boy was it desolate.  How do people live out here ?   Our first day we almost ran out of gas because we weren't watching.  Today we almost ran out of gas because the closest gas station was over 100 miles away.   

We drove for miles with nothing.  We finally reached our destination around 12:30 and it was truly beautiful at the bottom of the mountain.  

The boys enjoyed a type of corn hole game while Mom and I did laundry. 

The campground had complimentary ice cream Sunday's at 3:00 and after dinner we rented the movie Holes from the camp store.  Unfortunately Cayson has a fever again.  I pray he feels better quickly.  I think the weather/ altitude and food changes have really messed with his poor little system.  

  Tomorrow night we will finally be staying somewhere two nights.  Can't wait to see Four Corners and Mesa Verde.  

Day 3: Amarillo Texas

We got off today by 8:45 with a long day of driving ahead.  The wind across the plains in Oklahoma was really whipping the travel trailer around. We stopped at target in Oklahoma City and actually ate a picnic lunch in the parking lot.  We did see a few neat things on the way, like this flag horse. 

At one stop in Texas the road was so desolate you could see for miles. 

We arrived at the Amarillo Texas RV park at 5:45 and what a neat place to visit. The place had an indoor pool, playground and great bathrooms.  They even had a free limo service to a near by famous steak house. 

We ate dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch. 

They had a rattle snake in the store, the best ribs ever and biggest and creamiest carrot cake I have ever eaten. 

We are off tomorrow to New Mexico. 1,000 miles down and 6, 500 to go. 

Day 2 : Sallisaw Oklahoma

We were up and moving by 5:45 this morning and on the road by 8:00.  The weather looked a little ominous but luckily we only hit a few patches of rain.   Before we even got on the highway, we passed by the birth place of Elvis Presley.

Mom took the first driving shift which gave me time to look at all the rivers overflowing from all the rain they have had in this part of the country.

 We ended up stopping at Sonic for lunch and the boys enjoyed slushes.  Our scare came when I noticed we had 15 miles left to empty and the nearest gas station was 11 miles away. Needless to say we arrived at the gas station with 1 mile to spare.  That was too close a call for comfort.  

   When we arrived at the KOA we found they were remodeling the women's bathrooms so you had to take turns on alternating hours to use the bathroom. Then while making dinner the breaker kept flipping so we unplugged everything when that didn't work we had to call maintenance.  We are now sitting in the heat waiting for it to be fixed or we will have to move sites.  The "group" room is filled with junk so no work out tomorrow. The only savings grace is the pool and playground are keeping  the boys occupied.  Tomorrow we head to Texas.  I hope Greg is enjoying the quiet with out all the noise at home. 

Day 1: Tupelo, MS

We got off to a great start this morning leaving at 8:45.  We had an estimated 6.15 hour drive that ended up taking about 9 hours with gas and food stops.   We realized we will be filling up often getting between 6-9 miles per gallon.  We had one short detour when we weren't paying attention to the GPS.  We had a 1 hour time change and managed to get to Tombigbee state park by 4:15.  We enjoyed a great chicken dinner and the boys walked down to the lake then playground right at the state park.  For a state park there is a lot to do and the restrooms are clean.  Up early tomorrow for another long day of driving.  

Last day of school 2014-2015

Today was Camden's last day of 6th grade and Carter's last day of 4 th grade.  My boys are growing up so fast!
